Thanksgiving in Canada

Yep, that is another one of those difference on this side of the border!  Thanksgiving comes in October, the second Monday of October.  While today is Thanksgiving, here it is more of a weekend.  Families gather sometime during the weekend to celebrate, not just on one day.  There isn’t a parade (I admit I miss that) or any football games (though with the Talladega race rained out yesterday there is that!)

But then, all that stuff isn’t what this day is about.  It isn’t about the when, or the what, but about the thanks.  And I have so much for which to be thankful.  This evening when we sit down to eat it will only be Anita and I, so gong around and listing the things for which we are thankful would be rather….well, we already know!

But it is a good thing, as the old song goes, to count your blessings.  So in that spirit, here are some of the things, in no particular order, I am grateful for this Thanksgiving:

Anita.  She is my best friend, my wife, my home.

Our incredible daughters who continue to bring me such joy, and often laughter

Our son in laws, who love our daughters and add so much to our family

My brother and sister who are doing yeoman work caring for our mother

Canada and the chance to be a part of this incredible country

The opportunity to be a part of Port Williams United Baptist Church, who really isn’t aware how incredible they are!  They think every church is like them!

The freedom to preach without wondering……..

Autumn.  After years of living on the SC coast I had forgotten the beauty of trees changing colors.

Friends who come to visit.

Preacher Camp—my colleagues who inspire me, push me, pastor me. So honored to be a part of this group!

Mentors who have taught me along the way.  Hardy Clemons, Rick Traylor, Frank Smith; Ed Christman

Colleagues with whom I have gotten to work and learned from—Michelle McClendon, Donna Forrester, Janice Johnson, Glenn Adkins, Bill Thomas, Don Rose, David Woody, Deanna McBroom, Shirley Young, Carolyn Dennis, Christianne Rushton, Vanessa Gennette.

Digby Scallops

Lobster

Peggys Cove

Lunenburg

Baxter Harbor

The Lookoff

Snow—yeah, I know.  It surprises me too, but winter might be my favorite season!

Like I said, these are just some!  The wonderful thing is that I have another chance next month!

Happy Thanksgiving!
