Crossing Another Border

Borders come in all varieties.

I started this site as we made a transition to Canada. We knew we were crossing a border, one that required a passport and an immigration attorney.  We knew it would be something totally different.  And it was.

For nearly 5 years we enjoyed, loved, relished living in Nova Scotia.

But then life changed, and we crossed back over the border…home.

We came home not knowing what life would be like, even here life would be.  I took the training to be an Intentional Interim Pastor at the Center for Congregational Health (wonderful training if you are looking) and thought that would be the direction life would go.

Last year we were thrilled as we accepted a short term assignment at Kernersville Moravian Church.  They were looking for someone to serve as their transition pastor for 4 months until they found a permanent pastor.

Well, four months turned to 6, and then…

There were people in the congregation who kept asking, “Why don’t you just stay?”  I kept reminding them that isn’t the way this process worked.  In fact, while Anita was in Memphis after Rosie was born she found a house for us!  After all, in August we were going to be moving there.

Then…

A few weeks ago the board came to us asking us to consider removing the “transition” from my title and just be their pastor.  We accepted their offer and this morning I was named Pastor of Kernersville Moravian Church.

It is another border.  After a lifetime in the Baptist world we are going to be Moravians.  Yes, the cookie and Lovefeast people.  There is a lot more there, and hopefully in the months to come I will learn, and even share some with you.

We are excited about the months to come.  As Anita said, “It is nice to know what we are doing.”  This means that we will get to enjoy another hopefully great season of Wake Forest sports, renew old relationships, and be close to family and friends.

So if you are in the area and wanted to come and worship with us, you have more time!  I hope you will!
