What will you do with your extra day?
Were you even aware that you got an extra one? 24 whole hours that you didn’t get last year, and you won’t get next year? A gift that many of us didn’t even unwrap!
This is leap year, that astronomical event where we reset our clocks so that we are in synch with the orbit of the stars. Every 4 years we just add an additional day to the calendar.
So what willl you do with it?
Did you think about people who have a birthday on February 29? Do they only get a party every 4 years? What is on their drivers license? Will they EVER get to claim Medicare?
Did you even think about this extra day?
What about today, this day?
I have to confess that many times, most of the time, I don’t think about today, other than what I HAVE to get done. I have a meeting, a few appointments, a sermon to write, a newsletter article. Days are just a list of things to do.
But what if we paused every morning to wonder about the gift of the day? How would that change our perspective, our lives?
I mentioned John Claypool in my sermon a few weeks ago and his wonderful book of sermons, Tracks of a Fellow Struggler. Near the end of the collection is one entitled, “Life is Gift.”
That sermon has helped me deal with so much in my life! Every day, this day, is gift. It was not promised, we have not earned it. It is a bonus! When your feet hit the floor in the morning, say thank you! And then ask, “What will I do with this incredible gift?
It might just change our day, our life!
