In Case You Were Wondering, Covid Still Sucks!

I understand that editors always say, “Don’t bury the lede!”  So I won’t.

Covid Sucks!

I know that sounds so “Duh!”  But be honest.  When was the last time you thought about Covid?  And it’s understandable.  What with the US kidnapping the president of another country, stealing their oil’ the media being taken over by a few oligarchs; the ongoing war in Ukraine, and the continuing genocide in Gaza.  And don’t forget we have ICE agents shooting a woman/mother/protestor/terrorist (pick your media) in Minneapolis.  Who has time to think about Covid?

It was only 5 years ago when that was ALL anyone was thinking about!  Hospitals were overrun with patients; there were auxiliary morgues set up for all the fatalities.  There was a sense of impending doom as quarantines were set up.  Everyone was scrambling for a mask.  There was a run on toilet paper!

We were living in Nova Scotia at the time and people took it VERY seriously.  When Dr. Strang told people to stay in, we did!  When he said keep your distance, we did.  The result was that for the longest time Nova Scotia was second only to New Zealand in preventing the spread.  At a time when Charleston County (where we previously lived) was reporting 10,000 cases a week, Nova Scotia nearly went into a panic when we had 10!

But that was so 5 years ago. I got Covid 4 months after we moved back to the US.  (Add your joke here!). It knocked me out for 2 weeks!  I never thought I was going to die.  I just wanted to!

But that was so 4 years ago!

Since then vaccinations have reduced the cases to the point that it is like the flu!  Just get your booster and go on about your life!

And I kept meaning to…but one thing after another.  I got the Shingles vaccine, my flu shot, but Covid….

Now it’s too late! It started last Saturday as I was watching TV and felt a tickle in my throat.  Sunday morning I chose not to go to church because my throat was sore and a cough had started.  Monday I sent my wife after a Covid test which was immediate!  Tuesday night I started Paxlovid which makes my moth feel like I just ate a roll of tin foil!

I had things to do!  Our Christmas tree needs to be taken down.  I was heading back to the gym along with all the other people who promised to go!  I so need a haircut!  My grandson has his first basketball game this week~!

But all of that must wait.

Right now it is an accomplishment if I can make it from my bed to my chair; if I can eat dinner without my wife holding my head up.  (It weighs more than the rest of my body right now!)

I am writing this to remind you that Covid hasn’t gone away!

And it still sucks!
