We know the story, mainly because we know the song!
Zacchaeus was a wee little man, and a wee little man was he.
He climbed up in a sycamore tree for the Lord he wanted to see.
And as the Savior passed that way he looked up in the tree.
And he said, 'Zacchaeus, you come down!
For I'm going to your house today. For I'm going to your house today.
Did you sing along?
We all know it, but maybe that is the problem. We know this story so well that we miss the scandal, the hard part of it. Here Jesus has something good to say about a Rich Chief Tax Collector! He has something good to say because Zacchaeus is going to do something that is just ijmpossible. It is going to cost him the rest of his life and then some!
Maybe that is what Jesus is saying to us.
