Turn on the Light and Believe

Today is the day when we return to Daylight Savings Time. Researchers tell us this is a dangerous time. There will be an increase in auto accidents in the next few weeks. It seems we like less light!

And that is often true in our lives. We really do prefer the dark, that place where our secrets are kept, where our sins are hidden. But it can also be a place where our discipleship is hidden. It is easy for us to become stealth disciples, but is that really a disciple?

Jesus invites us, no implores us to turn on the light so that we might know the areas for which we need to repent. It isn’t easy. It is often hard but that is precisely how we find life.

On Saturday I was tempted to open up this finished sermon because of a podcast I heard. Kate Bowler had a conversation with Dani Shapiro. They talk about family secrets. It doesn’t change my sermon, but it is really worth a listen. Just click here!
